The European Economy - Policies, Prospects and Problems

Europe and especially the EURO area have been in economic recovery since 2013 after a number of reforms. These reforms are not complete and in addition, new economic, social and political concerns have recently made the future prospects for Europe more uncertain. The lecture reviews recent European developments and discusses the present challenges in policy making.

About the Speaker

Dr. Seppo Honkapohja (D.Soc.Sc.) has been a Member of the Board of the Bank of Finland since Jan 2008, with responsibility for scientific research, currency supply, market operations and payments, personnel and the risk control of investment activities and monetary policy. Dr Honkapohja joined the Bank of Finland from the academic world.

Dr Honkapohja was Professor of International Macroeconomics at the University of Cambridge in 2004–2007. His prior career included work with the Academy of Finland, University of Helsinki and Turku School of Economics and Business Administration.
